The Friendly Fairs

SHREWSBURY

We have been organising Fairs in Shrewsbury for about 20 years, first on a Saturday at the Belmont Art Centre until it closed its doors. We then moved to the British Rail Club in Ellesmere Road and changed to a Sunday. Two years ago the site was closed for demolition and we have now moved to the Midland Red Social Club. This is at the rear of the main Midland Red/Arriva Bus Garage on Ditherington Road, which is the main road into town from the North, and so gets extra passing trade.

There is free parking on site, and a licensed bar. Loading is ground floor and normally there is a small trolley on site for dealer usage. Most of the regular collectors here do not travel to other Fairs and it's a great place for dealers to see faces they would not see elsewhere. It's a good spending crowd of friendly addicts. The mix of vinyl to CD is approximately 50/50.

Tables are made up of 2x3ft ones which can be opened to provide a bigger area to place stock on. The Club insist that all tables are covered with a cloth. Stalls £20

2008 dates are Sundays September 21st and December 7th.

TELFORD

We took over this Fair from VIP Fairs who could not make it as successful as they would like it to have been and we have been firmly entrenched here for about 20 years. The venue is the Belmont Hall, Wellington and it is situated at the top end of the main shopping street and across from the Bus Station (the Railway Station is 2 minutes walk away). Wellington's main free car park backs onto the rear of the hall. There is a cafe very close to the hall.

The Belmont Hall is superb venue with excellent lighting, and a generous set of 8ft length tables. Unloading is a flat one from the rear of the building. Cars can be parked right outside the hall or in the main car park.

The Fair attracts collectors from all over Telford, and from Newport, Bridgnorth, Market Drayton, Wolverhampton, Shrewsbury, Oswestry and other towns.

Wellington has a large number of charity shops to scour and generally the church next door puts out a few boxes of vinyl and CDs - there have been a few rare items come off their tables. Stalls £20

2008 date is Saturday October 25th.
